The National Park Service to Commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Medgar Evers’ Assassination

The National Park Service (NPS) in partnership with the National Park Foundation, National Parks Conservation Association, and the Trust for Public Land, will honor the legacy of Medgar Evers, and the lifelong contributions of this family through a series of public events from June 9, 2023 through June 12, 2023.

Medgar Evers was the first NAACP field secretary and a prominent civil rights activist and organizer in Mississippi. 60 years ago, on June 12, 1963 tragedy struck the Evers’ family and the neighborhood of Jackson’s North Street when white supremacist Bryon De La Beckwith shot and killed Medgar Evers in the driveway of his house.
