Over the Years with THEE Sonic Boom of the South
Jackson State University’s marching band was established in the 1940s. In 1971, it was dubbed its current name “Sonic Boom of the South” by students in the band. Since its inception, Sonic Boom of the South have performed at NFL games, national parades, the NAACP Image Awards, Motown and the Superbowl halftime performance with Usher. Also, they’ve been featured in many commercials including for Pepsi Co. Since 2019, Demetrius Photography has covered the Sonic Boom of the South during various events including the Circle City Classic, Southern Heritage Classic presented by FedEx, Gulf Coast Challenge, and the HBCU Legacy Bowl.
